Hello! This is my fourth time doing my own gel nails at home, and let me tell you, this stuff is amazing. Did you know that you can do your own gel nail manicure at home using your own normal nail polish and no UV light? It will make your nails look thicker and freshly polished even after two weeks. Here’s how:
You will need GELOUS Advanced Nail Gel Coat from Sally Beauty Supply, ANY nail polish color of your choice, and ANY clear top coat of your choice.
1. Apply one coat GELOUS onto clean, smooth, dry nails. Let it set for a few minutes.
2. Apply another coat GELOUS. Let set.
3. Apply one coat nail polish. Let it dry.
4. Apply another coat GELOUS. Let it set for a couple minutes.
5. Apply another coat nail polish. Let it dry.
6. Apply one layer clear top coat. Let dry. DONE.
To remove your gel nails, use acetone nail polish remover, and it’s a breeze. Enjoy your beautiful nails! Watch in HD for best quality video.
Gosh! Another month has flown by in a flash. It’s time to show-n-tell my “Spring Fling” Ipsy Glam Bag for May. This one might just be the best one yet. It has a $50 value for cryin’ out loud! No duds in the bag for me – I’m in beauty product heaven. Watch the video in HD for best quality. I’m “super excited” about a bajillion times.
Dry shampoo has been a MUST HAVE in my daily hair care routine for the past three years. I’ve gone through countless spray cans of different brands (Psst!, Tresemme, John Frieda, Garnier, Oscar Blandi, Batiste…to name a few), spending way too much for very little product. I started to use plain old baby powder, sprinkling it directly on my roots and rubbing it in, and I found that it worked just as well or even better at giving my hair added volume and combating greasiness. I continued to do this for months until one day I was at work, and I happen to catch a glance of my hair in the mirror. It looked like I had smeared a powdered doughnut all over my head. It was even more noticeable because I had my hair up in a ponytail, a voluminous, bouncy, GRAY colored ponytail. Horrified, I vowed to figure out a way to darken the powder… and that is just what I did. Oh, and your hair will smell a little chocolatey. Yum!
THE RECIPE: Mix 3 parts cocoa powder and 1 part cornstarch and/or baby powder in a small container. I lucked out and found an old Maybelline loose face powder container, which is perfect because it sprinkles just the right amount. Depending on how dark your hair is, you may need to tweak the recipe to make it lighter or darker. To darken the mixture a little bit more, add some cinnamon to the mix. Sorry for the lack of specific measurement, but I don’t measure anything. I just go freehand! Mmmm…my hair smells like cookies.Because this container works so well, I just hold the container in my hand and sprinkle the powder directly onto my roots and rub it in with my fingers. If you don’t have a nifty container like this one, you can just take a fluffy face powder brush and dip it into the dry shampoo and dab on to your roots. Other container ideas: salt/pepper shaker, mineral powder foundation containers (like BareMinerals), powdered sugar container/shaker, empty baby powder container.
QUICK TIP: Did you know that the best way to use dry shampoo is to apply it BEFORE you actually need it? If your hair is already oily before applying it won’t work as well. Apply at your roots and rub it in right after your hair is washed and dried. It will extend the life of your style, give you volume and thickness, and it will prevent your hair from becoming oily.

My Pretty In PinkIpsy Glam Bag for April ’13 finally arrived (about 2 weeks late, but whatever). It was worth the wait! This is my favorite Glam Bag so far since I started my subscription in January. If you are not a fan of pink things, well, you probably won’t like these products with the exception of the hair powder. I LOVE me some pink, so I couldn’t be more thrilled. According to Ipsy, this month’s bag has a $30 value. I’m loving ALL of these products – no duds this month! Seriously.
Powder Play Voluminizing & Texturizing Powder by SexyHair: A great boost to my ultra fine/thin hair. Gives my hair a little lift by itself, or enables the tease to last. Sation Nail Lacquer in Love At First Byte: My FAVORITE polish this Spring. A peachy-pink, high quality, glossy-sheer, yet buildable nail enamel. Be a Bombshell Blush in Beach Please: Bright fuschia-pink blush that is super pigmented. Normally pink blushes don’t even show up on my skin. This one definitely does – a little goes a long way. Mica Beauty Cosmetics Mineral Eyeshadow/Shimmer Powder in Earth: The most gorgeous shimmer powder that really shines! Use as eyeshadow or mix with lipgloss or blow onto nail polish. So many options for this versatile product.
Hello! This morning I decided it was time to eliminate those pesky little gray hairs of mine and make a change from a subtle ombre to solid color. I’ve been sporting a modified ombre since November, meaning that I lightened my tips to a caramel shade, but only on the underneath panel of my hair. I enjoyed the look, but I’m ready for a little change back to normal. I decided to give Garnier’s new oil-based hair color a try in 4.3 Dark Golden Brown. Continue reading →

These products are tucked away in an adorable nautical themed cosmetic bag. I really love this month’s products – they are making me so excited for warm weather! For more information on Ipsy click here. Speaking of Ipsy, did you watch the Bachelor finale last night?! I know, nice segway. I’ll admit, I was glued to the TV for THREE entire hours. I was routing for Catherine, so I’m thrilled, although I liked Lindsey also. Is it sad that I can’t wait to watch their fairy tale, over-the-top-because-ABC-is-paying-for-it TV wedding? Did you hear, Sean is going to be on Dancing with the Stars? Oh man, that says Jake Pavelka all over it. Smart move? We shall see.
Do you or someone you love have a problem with drawing designs on your nails? You are not alone. I’m elated with joy as I bring you this mind-blowing tutorial on how to make your own nail decals. Psssst! Did you know that you can use a Sharpie permanent marker to jazz up your nails? I love using metallic Sharpies to create different patterns, and they show up against dark polish colors. French tips, chevrons, dots, and hearts just got a whole lot easier. Apply your base coat of polish and let dry. Draw your design using your Sharpie and LET DRY COMPLETELY. Seal with a clear top coat. You’re welcome. Spread the word.
It’s time to get “Red Carpet Ready” with Ipsy’s official February 2013 Glam Bag! Let’s cut to the chase and see what’s inside.
Lash Cards: Pretty much useless for me. They give you 4 individually wrapped cards (2 small and 2 large). I don’t see why you just can’t use a business card or a plastic spoon. Coastal Scents eyeshadows: I received the “Glitz & Glamour” set which includes the shades Candlelight, Gunmetal, Incognito, and Ashen. Love these! I have the metallic Coast Scents palette already, and these shadows are high quality. Pop Beauty Smokey Lash Kapow Mascara in Smokey Black: Great mascara, but I only wear waterproof. This mascara will smudge and run on me. Going to give away to a friend with non-oily skin. Micabeauty Gel Eyeliner: You really can’t go wrong with gel liner like this. This is full-sized, and did you know that it retails for $30? Pixi Flawless and Poreless primer: Not bad. Makeup looks smooth and flawless and lasts all day.
Not a bad bag, although not as good as January. You can’t expect to like everything. I’m still very pleased with my subscription so far. For more information on Ipsy click here.
Happy almost Valentine’s Day! Hearts are going to be pretty much everywhere this week, and fingernails are no exception. I managed to successfully form tiny red hearts with the help of a dull pencil tip and some patience. I’ll admit, my right hand does not look as good as my left one, and I had to settle for a red blob on my right pinky nail that looks more like a drop of blood than anything else. Oh well, it’s always the non-dominant hand that counts! I used 925 Gold Coin from Revlon and from my January Ipsy glam bag, Nailtini’s Bloody Mary. Wishing you all a wonderful Love Day this week!
Introducing Revlon’s newest glittery nail colors, 770 Heavenly and 260 Girly. Aren’t they such pretty little bottles? Revlon nail enamels are affordable with great quality, and best of all, they are coming out with the most creative concoctions! Heavenly is full of tiny opalescent square and hexagonal glitter pieces with a clear jelly-like base. Girly has a sheer pink-purple base with fuschia, indigo, and peachy-pink glitter specks (some big and some tiny).
I used about three coats of polish in both pictures. They are beautiful colors on their own, but I’m sure they would look amazing layered on top of other colors too! Enjoy your Sunday funday, and I’ll see you soon.
These beauties are Blushing Sequin and Sheer Linen from L’oreal’s Colour Caresse lipstick line. They are sheer, buildable lipsticks that are protective and ultra nourishing. I’ve been loving them since I bought them at Ulta last month, so I thought you might like to see some swatch action! Continue reading →
