Hi! Just a quick post to show you my new addiction. I painted these two colorful canvases at my new favorite hang-out, Painting With A Twist. I love everything about this place, the atmosphere, the music, the people, and of course, the art. You sign up and pay online for a painting that you want to do on a designated night, and you get a step-by-step art lesson with the materials to create your masterpiece. You can bring snacks and beverages to make the experience complete, and you leave with your cool new painting. I would much rather do this than hang out at a smelly bar. Art was always my favorite subject as a kid, until I got to college, where it was stressful and filled with silly discussion about how each brush stroke had a profound meaning. Well, I ain’t got time fo’ that! There is no judgment, no critique, and you are free to make your painting your own at this place – all while jammin’ out to your favorite tunes. If you love to paint, check it out!
This fall has been a roller coaster ride in terms of my fitness goals. Here are some of my instagram yoga pics from this season. September and the first half of October was a challenge for me because I had a lumbar sprain (happened during Zumba class, probably while chest pumping or twerking) that led to further complications – sacro-iliac joint dysfunction and sciatica. I had to ease off my teaching, and working as a nurse was no fun either with a permanent ice pack strapped to my butt. I continued my at-home yoga practice, sticking to the easy poses, laying off backbends. Slowly but surely, the back healed, and I am back at it, full force, picking up where I left off and making progress. I’m sure you can tell that I enjoy being part of the IG yoga community. Not only has it opened my eyes to learning new things, but I have become closer to accepting and appreciating my body. When I first started taking these pics, I was so picky about the way my body looked, not posting some of them because I thought I looked too short, too stubby, too big, too small, too muscular, too soft, blah, blah, blah. I compared myself to other yoga girls and guys who looked long and lean in their poses. I didn’t want to show my arms or my legs in particular angles- ridiculous thoughts! Now I no longer base my fitness goals on how I look. It is all about my ability and what I can do, and I am much more at ease with myself. I encourage everyone to start a personal yoga practice, no matter what level you are on. It may take a while for you to like it though- it took me a lonnnngggg time to not have to force myself to do it. I still have to give myself a pep talk before doing some poses, but I am always grateful afterwards. Namaste peeps. You can follow my yoga journey on IG: @reesekistel
Hi! Yes I’m still alive! A few weeks ago I was up late staring at my large forehead, and I thought, “Hmmmm. I think I will wash the painful year and a half process of growing my bangs out down the drain.” I picked up the scissors and started chopping away at my hair, first starting with longer side swept bangs. The next night I felt this force compelling me to my scissors once again. Blunt bangs again for this girl. Snip, snip here and a snip, snip there. I posted these pics on Instagram – the first, right after the incident and the second yesterday with hair curled, cat headband in place. I’m beginning to really like this big change. They get pinned up when I’m working out or when I don’t have time to fuss with them, and it is nice to be able to switch your look around whenever you want. So far friend and family reviews have been positive. Thinking about bangs? I say go for it!
Last weekend I finally tried L’Oreal’s Wild Ombre after watching countless YouTube tutorials and reviews on the product over the last six months. I was becoming quite blasé about my solid dark brown, so I thought what the heck, if it doesn’t work out, I’ll just chop my hair short, which has happened a few times in the past due to bad DIY hair experiments. Having a professional do this costs major beaucoup bucks at the salon, and this nifty ombre-in-a-box is $9 at Walmart. So how’d it go? Well… me likey, me likey a lot!!! It was as easy as brushing your hair. I pretty much followed the directions, leaving it in for 30 minutes. I was nervous about damaging my hair, so I deep conditioned after rinsing it out, and no damage at all! I would definitely use it again and recommend it to friends. It was the highlight of my weekend for sure…is that sad? Oh well. Sorry I didn’t do a video on this, but there are a bagillion video tutorials on this product already. I’ll try to post more pics soon. Bye!!
Well hello! I made this necklace over the summer after perusing one of my favorite creative blogs, Honestly WTF. If you haven’t checked out this site, oh my gosh, go now! So inspiring. I followed this tutorial pretty much exactly, making two necklaces, which I eventually decided to stitch together to make the one necklace shown above. The bottom rhinestone necklace is an old piece of pageant jewelry that I wore to a formal dance back in grade school. The top single rhinestone strand I found at Joann Fabrics. Now I’ll be honest with you, this maybe one of the trickiest DIY projects that I’ve tried, especially because I’m new to working with embroidery thread. It was a little challenging to braid, but hey, if I can do it, YOU can definitely do it. After I finished this piece, I felt a huge sense of accomplishment, especially because I’ve seen necklaces like this retail for BIG bucks, while I spent about $6 for the materials. It was so much fun picking out thread colors, I guarantee you will spend most of your time staring at the embroidery thread selection trying to decide which color(s) you want for your necklace. Hope you give it a try!
Hi! Here is a simple and fun nail idea for you. I am obviously obsessed with using makeup sponge wedges to paint my nails. Trust me, it is not any more time consuming than painting your nails the traditional way. You can use any combination of colors – pastels, neons, glitters, metallics – the options are endless. I think pastels look best with this look, but use whatever floats your boat. Watch the tutorial in HD for best quality.

Hi! I thought I would share some of my fitness-related Instagram photos with you today. I started using Instagram at the start of the summer, and it has quickly become my favorite social media outlet. Now I don’t post these yoga exhibitionist pics to be a narcissistic show-off. These photos are an integral part of my fitness journey, like a journal, so I can see my strengths, weaknesses, accomplishments. I’ve been so inspired by other Instagram fitness selfies, that I figure if I can inspire or motivate just one person, that would be enough for me to post a picture. It also allows me to indulge my creative side, which is what attracted me to yoga in the first place (it’s like “body art”). Hope you like my little handstand collage. Hello! Here is a super easy nail tutorial on the ombre french tip manicure. You will see that this modern version of a classic nail look is much easier and less time consuming. I always have a difficult time getting the silly white line straight anyway. Lets face it, white nail polish is a stubborn color to work with. Nails will dry quickly because you are not using very much polish, and this method is basically fool proof. This look would be great for your wedding, no? Want to turn this into a gel nail manicure? Well that’s easy, click here for my DIY gel nail tutorial. Watch the video in HD for best quality.
I thought now would be a good time to take a little reprieve from DIY-ing, makeup, and other frivolous things to kill some time doing something random. In comes Cups. You know, the Anna Kendrick cup song from Pitch Perfect. I decided to make a little tutorial on how to perform the cup pattern for this clever little ditty. Hope you are intrigued. This is quite addicting, and you may get the urge to bust out in song at the sight of a plastic cup. Maybe this can be your next party trick. I added Anna Kendrick’s cover in the Grooveshark player on my homepage if you want to clap and tap away to the actual song. Have fun! Tutorial starts at 1:48.
There are many T-shirt headband tutorials out there, but do you really want a headband that looks like you cut the sleeve off your shirt and put it on your head? I saw an adorable multi-colored sailor knot headband at the mall, but after seeing the $18 price tag, my heart broke as I placed it right back on the rack. I dug through all my old shirts and found quite a few candidates for the new headband I was about to fashion. Advice? Pick the right T-shirt(s)! You want your shirt to be long, stretchy, and, if you are like me, colorful. I made quite a few of these – one for everyday of the week. Hope you enjoy! Watch the video in HD.
Hello! Meet Urban Outfitter’s “Silver Holo”, a super cool holographic nail polish. I’ve always been hesitant to try UO’s nail polishes, but this one pretty much just jumped right into my little hand, and off to the cash register we went. As you can see in the photos, it truly IS holographic. From far away, it looks like a light gray color though. You really need to look at it in the sun to be able to see how special it is – rainbows and shiny unicorns come out! There were pink and green holo-color options also, but I thought silver was the coolest. It has a whopping $10 price tag, but if you are itching to try something different, this just might be it!
